Gardens are our quiet places…
Acres of trees and flowers or two pots on the windowsill, gardens are places we can go to clear the chaos from our minds; something pretty, colorful, soothing, quiet, and connected to nature.
For decades, when time allowed, I’ve surrounded myself with gardens at home and searched for those public and hidden places where garden artists have created an oasis from the stress of day-to-day life. Places where we can take a deep breath and pause from life’s struggles.
And travel is one of many ways to find them
After raising a family and retiring in the U.S., my search for beautiful, peaceful gardens drew me to explore the world and I started in Europe. The Alhambra’s Generalife Gardens was mind-blowingly beautiful, almost a fantasy world if you didn’t notice the crowds. My dream is to go back and arrive as early in the morning as possible. Having those gardens all to myself is a fantasy, but one can dream. These gardens are what I have measured every other garden against since I left Granada. But, every garden is unique with its own offerings, large or small, so I continue traveling.
